Each year, we adjust the prices of some of our products and services in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rate of inflation, plus 3.9%.
When we work out our prices, we use the CPI rate published in January. For January 2022, the CPI rate is 5.4%. This means that, in 2022, most of our customers will see a price increase of 9.3% (which is 5.4% plus 3.9%).
These price changes take effect from 31 March 2022.
What is the Consumer Price Index (CPI)?
It’s a measure of the rate of inflation. In other words, the change in the prices of goods and services over time. The Office for National Statistics publishes the CPI rate every month, based on household spending across the UK.

How is BT helping customers who need extra support?

That’s why we provide the following packages, which won’t be increasing in price during 2022:
- Home Essentials
- Home Phone Saver
- BT Basic
Note that the prices of some of our add-ons and out-of-bundle charges will be increasing by 9.3% from 31 March 2022, in line with the CPI rate of inflation published in January (5.4%) plus 3.9%.
If you’re receiving state benefits, you may be eligible for our Home Essentials broadband and phone plans.
And as part of the extra help we provide for customers, we’ve put together a financial support guide, which explains the range of options available to customers who are concerned about money.
It’s a measure of whether the cost of goods and services is going up (inflation) or down (deflation), based on average prices from a range of industries. The CPI takes a basket of goods (for example, food, clothes and petrol), looks at what they cost last year, what they cost now, and calculates the difference. Find out more from the Office for National Statistics.
We’ll send you an email or a letter between 10 February and 16 March 2022. In there, we’ll explain any changes to your prices.
You’ll also be able to see your new price(s) on any of your bills from 31 March 2022.
If your price is changing, we’ll add the relevant percentage to the price you were paying up until 31 March 2022. Any price change will be in line with your terms and conditions. We’ll explain what this means for you personally in an email or letter we’ll send to you between 10 February and 16 March 2022.
If your price is changing, we’ll take account of any discounts you get. Log into MyBT for personalised information about your price plan(s).
Add-ons can be calling features, calling plans or international add-ons for landline. Add-ons are packages of minutes, messages, mobile data, or any other services you can buy in addition to your plan.
The prices of some of our add-ons will be increasing by 9.3% from 31 March 2022, in line with the CPI rate of inflation published in January (5.4%) plus 3.9%.
To see details of any active add-ons you may have, check your latest BT bill or log into MyBT.
As part of your landline calling plan, or BT mobile plan, you’ll have an allowance for calls, texts and/or data. There are restrictions on where and how you can use your allowance. For example, calls are restricted to UK mobile networks and UK landlines starting with 01, 02 or 03.
If you’re on a voice pay-as-you-go calling plan or mobile plan, and there are restrictions, you’ll be charged our standard rates if you go outside of these restrictions. These are what we call ‘out-of-bundle charges’.
Some of these charges will be increasing by 9.3% from 31 March 2022, in line with the CPI rate of inflation published in January (5.4%) plus 3.9%.
We’ve excluded some out-of-bundle charges and add-ons, either for regulatory or customer service reasons.
You’ll find them at BT legal stuff.
